There aren’t many fairytales that came out of the coronavirus pandemic … but there’s at least one. Leah Pruett, professional Top Fuel driver, had been in the dating scene for awhile when she and Tony Stewart, semi-retired professional racecar driver, started chatting through text. After a successful first date, lunch and a jaunt through Daytona Bike Week, Pruett was on a flight to Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Later that same week, nationwide shutdowns were implemented due to COVID-19 and the race was canceled. This time heading home to Arizona, Pruett asked, “Do you wanna go with me?” A four-day weekend turned into four-and-a-half straight months and the rest is history for the couple. They got married in 2021 and credit the pandemic with giving them the time to get to know each other during an otherwise hectic time in their lives.
