Flight of the Phoenix

4 months ago Heritage

The 1963 Dodge Phoenix was a four-door sedan assembled by Chrysler Australia from Complete-Knocked-Down (CKD) kits sent over from Detroit. Midsize family cars drove sales, but even their highest trim levels did not offer the luxury that some were in the market for. Advertising targeted a chauffeur-driven clientele, calling the Phoenix “The car that speaks well of your success.” Aussie Phoenixes from 1960-1964 came standard with the 318-cubic-inch V8 and were on the B-body platform until 1965.

When Laurence Rogers, self-proclaimed Aussie Revhead, stumbled upon a retired charity-rally ’63 Dodge Phoenix for sale, he couldn’t pass it up. Now, with the Phoenix at his home shed and a deeper inspection, Rogers is at a crossroads. Should this rare, Aussie-built Dodge be saved or gutted? Check out the pros and cons of this project car, and make sure to vote and weigh in on the fate of the Phoenix.
