How did you choose the vehicle you are racing with?

“Rusty” is the only V8 rear-wheel-drive truck I have running at the moment. I want to go on this adventure and see if it is something for me. I own a ’74 Dodge Dart that is not currently running. If I enjoy my drag racing experience, it maybe just be time to get that running!

What makes this vehicle “sick”?

It has good character since it looks like an old farm truck. It makes me feel good that it is something different. I actually created it from this and another truck.

What excites you about Sick Week?

I’m looking forward to meeting like-minded individuals. I can’t wait to hang out with people that have the same interests as me. I’m also excited to visit the Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing.

What will your journey to Florida be like?

I live about 150 miles away, so I’m guessing I probably have the shortest commute out of anyone going. I’ll head out on Saturday morning. I want to get there a bit early – hopefully nothing happens en route and everything goes smoothly.

Have you participated in any other racing events like this?

No, this is my first one. I’m a bit nervous – hopefully it all goes smoothly and nothing breaks. I don’t want to lose my truck on the side of the road, but if I do, I’m a mechanic so I can probably fix it. This will also be my copilot’s first race, as well. I opted to bring my wife, who said, “Are you sure you don’t want to bring a friend from work?” But more than one of us can’t take off at the same time, and she does like being named as “crew”.

What makes (well, will make) you a good drag racer?

I’m meticulous and methodical. There is a procedure to the way I do things. I’m able to figure out how things run, and then work out how to make it even better.

What are you passionate about outside of racing?

I work as a mechanic, but then come home and either tinker with my vehicle or someone else’s. I also enjoy four-wheeling. Outside of automotive stuff, I like to surf.
