Race-Inspired Handling…of Business

DON SCHUMACHER MOTORSPORTS

For 20 years, Don Schumacher Racing (DSR) has been one of the most successful teams in the NHRA, in a variety of professional classes. The team’s pursuit of excellence has netted them more than 300 NHRA event titles and 17 championships. As the team continued this pursuit of excellence, Don Schumacher and his team came to the decision that there was a need to add another business to the race shop. The team’s newest adventure, Don Schumacher Motorsports (DSM) Performance & Precision Engineering, has emerged as a world-class manufacturer of engine blocks, engine parts and high-performance components.

Now in its second year of operation, and known as DSM Performance & Precision Machining, the business is a leader in building Top Fuel and Funny Car engine blocks, cylinder heads and other components for both DSR and other teams. In addition, DSM has become an integral supplier of parts and pieces for its newly crowned NHRA SAM Tech World Champion Factory Stock Showdown Dodge Challenger Drag Pak.

The man behind the day-to-day operations of DSM is Will Truitt. Will has been a part of the Don Schumacher organization for over a decade and has worked in a variety of roles for the business. Having taken the role with DSM, Truitt has been involved in taking Mr. Schumacher’s vision for a manufacturing company and putting together the equipment, the people and the operational model for the business

“When I took the role with DSM, Don was looking to bring the accumulated experience of nearly 20 years on track to the manufacturing of things like engine blocks, cylinder heads, etc.,” said Truitt. “We have some great partners like Okuma and Sandvik who supply some of the best manufacturing equipment and cutting tools, as well as elite service and engineering solutions. We have also worked within the organization within our network to find engineers, parts designers and equipment operators who are looking to build industry-leading parts. In addition, we look to continuously refine those parts and provide updated solutions for our customers in days, not months.”

That same enthusiasm for manufacturing is now being applied to other already-established Schumacher business. And company prosperity is reaping the benefits of this recipe. “We have taken this approach to all of our manufacturing projects,” said Truitt. “In particular, we are very proud of involvement in the development of updates for our NHRA World Championship Factory Stock Challenger. There were a number of products from pulleys to Drag Pak cylinder heads that we made throughout the year to get them back available to Mopar® racers. We look to continue to give this type of effort and updating to all of our parts for our current and future customers.”

We look forward to seeing DSM continue to expand its offerings in 2019 for the Dodge Challenger Drag Pak and other possible performance parts at the race track.
