The Legacy of Vanishing Point Lives On

Vanishing Point is a 1971 film starring Barry Newman that is celebrated by muscle car enthusiasts – and for good reason. The story follows a disgruntled driver for hire that needs to deliver a 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T from Colorado to California. The film’s iconic white Challenger, and epic police chase, have garnered somewhat of a cult following. It has also inspired enthusiasts to create tribute vehicles over the more than 50 years since the film was released. Nick’s Garage owner and content creator Nick Panaritis is doing just that and is in the final stages of his Challenger restoration. In a recent video from his Nick’s Garage YouTube page, Nick tests various components, such as lights and power steering, with the 440 V8 engine that produces the trademark deep rumble. Despite challenges, this 1970 Dodge Challenger restoration aims to closely resemble the original from Vanishing Point, including details like a Rim Blow steering wheel. The video by Nick’s Garage concludes by acknowledging the film’s legendary status and recommending a related book. Did you know that there were five original Vanishing Point Challengers used during filming?
