Charger Redeye Owner Made the Most of the Jailbreak Package

Dodge introduced the Jailbreak package for the 2022 model year Challenger and Charger in SRT® Hellcat Redeye trim, allowing customers to mix and match any collection of interior and exterior appearance options that they wanted. This gives customers the ability to go through the option list and check whatever boxes they want in order to create a truly unique-looking muscle car.

In the past, you could not order a car with a certain selection of interior and exterior colors because the design team decided that they didn’t look good together, and that was that. For example, the first Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody test car that I had was Octane Red on the outside with Demonic Red seats and red seat belts, but it was pointed out to me that this configuration was not available to order because the team felt that the different red hues didn’t work well together. Along similar lines, if you were ordering an Octane Red Charger a few years back, you couldn’t add dual blue stripes, but the Jailbreak system allows buyers to add any color stripe package to any color car. Buyers can also pick from a wide selection of wheels in different colors: five different colors of Brembo brake calipers, four different badge color options, four different interior finish patterns and four different seat belt colors – in addition to the exterior paint and interior upholstery colors.

The Dodge Jailbreak package essentially gives buyers the chance to create truly bespoke versions of the Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye and Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye. That alone made the package very attractive to potential buyers, but as a cherry on top, Dodge gave the Jailbreak models an extra 10 horsepower – leading to an official rating of 807 horsepower. While the Challenger SRT Super Stock had previously been available with 807 horsepower, the Jailbreak brought about the first time that buyers could get an 807-horsepower Charger.

For many buyers, the simple fact that these are factory models with an 8 at the beginning of the horsepower rating was enough for them to trade their slightly older Dodge SRT Hellcat cars for a Jailbreak, but in many cases, these cars were ordered in relatively standard form. Many dealership inventory vehicles and quite a few early customer Jailbreak orders came with the same look that the buyers could have gotten without the Jailbreak package. It makes sense for a dealership to order a car with the most common and most popular color-based options inside and out, but that doesn’t lead to many interesting configurations.

However, some of the people who ordered a Jailbreak model for the 2022 model year were more interested in the ability to create a truly unique Dodge muscle car and Tim Holmberg was one of them. You may recognize his name, as he is one of the most active members of the modern Dodge community. He and his step-daughter, Kenzie Peterson, participate in the Modern Street HEMI® Shootout with their 2018 SRT Demons. Holmberg has owned several other SRT Hellcat-powered vehicles in the past few years and his shop, Holmberg Motorsports, is one of the most trusted names in the community. As a hardcore Dodge enthusiast, he saw the Jailbreak package as a chance to create a truly unique Charger that would turn heads.

Jailbreaking the Charger

While Tim Holmberg and his family have some wicked performance cars, including a pair of 8-second Dodge Challenger SRT Demons, they have been without a fast street car for some time. Tim’s wife, Laura, previously drove a Jeep® Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, but they sold that when they bought the second SRT Demon. The SRT Demons could be driven on the street with a change of the tires, but Holmberg wanted a legitimate street car that was easier to jump in and drive than the SRT Demons, while also being more fun to drive than his Ram HD. Initially, he had been looking for another Trackhawk, but when his local Dodge dealership had two Jailbreak allocations available – one Challenger and one Charger – Holmberg pulled the trigger and ordered the four-door muscle car.

When it came time to put together the order, Holmberg made the most of the Jailbreak program. On the outside, he picked F8 Green with orange Brembo brake calipers, a Gloss Black roof, a Satin Black rear spoiler, Brass Monkey badges and Brass Monkey wheels. The factory did not add the Satin Black rear spoiler, but Holmberg plans to have the F8 Green spoiler either painted or wrapped in Satin Black in the near future. The dark green paint with the bronzed wheels and badges, along with the contrasting black, all come together to create a very striking look, but to add an exclamation point to the build, Holmberg went with Demonic Red interior. He pointed out that people who see his Charger either love it or hate it, and some people believe that it was put together by Dodge with the wrong mix of parts – but Holmberg loves his 807-horsepower super sedan. Even Laura was unsure of the color combination, but now that they have the car, she loves the look as well. As he puts it “the world doesn’t need another black-on-black Charger with black wheels”, and his Jailbreak does a fine job of breaking out of the mold.

Holmberg received his 2022 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak in early November and he lives in Minnesota, so the family only got to enjoy it for a short time before putting it away for the winter. They racked up about 250 miles, including a shopping trip to Costco, before parking it under 2018 SRT Demon #478 for a long winter’s nap.

While their Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye Jailbreak will remain a daily-driven street car, Holmberg does have plans for a few upgrades. He will start by adding a Per4Mance Development DIRS differential brace and an oil catch can, but once Barth Tuning has their flex fuel tuning system set up for the latest models, Holmberg will add larger injectors and the tuning package to free up an extra hundred horsepower or so on stock boost levels. He does plan to have some fun with the car with stock power at first, to see what it can do, but as the daily driver of the guy who owns one of the best-known shops in the SRT Hellcat community, of course it is going to have some extra power. He told me that it “won’t be tracked a bunch,” but he and his wife are looking forward to track-based events like the Hot Rod Power Tour.

Most importantly, as the modern era of the Dodge muscle cars comes to an end, Holmberg recognized that and ordered this Charger to be the street car that he will keep well into the future. It turns heads today and in 30 years, when it is sitting at a car show surrounded by black cars with black interior and silent EVs – this car will still be a head-turner thanks to Tim Holmberg making the most of the Dodge Jailbreak package.

FYI I couldn’t order red interior if you wanted Alcantara which was available for non HC cars, didn’t want their leather, my Alcantara holds up better than both of my Demonic red Durango seats. I did go for red belts and carbon fiber inserts. Tim is a great guy, love seeing him at MSHS and ran into him at Roadkill. He does our platform proud! Wish he was in our area. As for me I’d say I’d take the Jailbreak to Roadkill but the 15 was dialed in there, assuming it comes in time. Too much wine tonight, hope I made sense.
