Dodge Charger SRT® Hellcat Runs a 7.62 Quarter-Mile, Claiming the World Record

At the 2022 Legion of Demons event at Houston Raceway Park, Zdung Ho and his Dodge Charger SRT® Hellcat ran a 7.72, resetting his own record for the world’s quickest SRT Hellcat Charger in the quarter-mile. The only modern Charger in the world to run a quicker quarter-mile time (prior to this past weekend) was AJ Berge, whose SRT Hellcat-powered 2006 Dodge sedan ran a 7.67 at 179.47 back in 2021. Since running that 7.72, Zdung Ho has been working on beating his own number and at the first 2023 Legion of Demons event, his Go Mango Dodge reset the record for the quickest SRT Hellcat Charger and the quickest modern Charger – laying down an awesome 7.622 at 183.29 miles per hour.

When Zdung Ho ran in the 7.70s last year, his Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat was powered by a 441-cubic-inch Gen III HEMI® engine that was built by Demon Performance and TKM. That engine was fitted with ThiTek cylinder heads, a Winberg billet crankshaft, Carrillo Pro-H Rods, custom Diamond pistons, a custom Demon Performance camshaft, a Manton Roller Rocker System, Stainless Works longtube headers, Nitrous Outlet intake spacer plates and a ported Gen V Whipple 3.0-liter supercharger, with the entire system tuned by Ho himself. Since then, the 3.0-liter Whipple blower has been replaced with a new 3.8-liter Whipple, but that is the only major change since setting the SRT Hellcat Charger record last year.

Fortunately, that one major change had an equally major impact on performance, allowing the man known throughout the community as “Z” to claim the overall modern Dodge Charger quarter-mile elapsed time and speed records.

Shooting for Another Record

Zdung Ho started the 2023 Legion of Demons event in Houston with what he called a conservative tune and a soft launch, yielding a 7.906 at 174.84 mph with a 150-dry shot of nitrous and a 3.125-inch supercharger pulley. Based on his logs, he was running out of fuel, so he dialed back to a 125-dry shot of nitrous and made a couple passes with that same pulley, leading to another 7.90 and a 7.87 during the first day of racing at the Legion of Demons event.

On the second day of the Legion of Demons event, Z decided to get a bit more aggressive, dropping the initial nitrous dry shot down to 100, but adding a second stage of nitrous set for a 300-shot through the Nitrous Outlet plates. This got the results that he had hoped for, running a 7.701 at 182.01 miles per hour – beating his previous best time. At that point, he had reset the quarter-mile records for elapsed time and speed for an SRT Hellcat Charger, but he wanted to go even faster.

After making some adjustments to the fuel system that would allow him to increase the flow at wide open throttle, he increased the nitrous dry shot to 150 and swapped in a smaller 3-inch supercharger pulley. With the 300-shot second stage, he was making gobs of power – it was just a question of whether or not the track surface would hold the power. Fortunately, it did, and Ho laid down the quickest quarter-mile pass ever by any modern Dodge Charger.

Mind you, this is with a factory-based 8-speed automatic transmission and an independent rear suspension setup along with a track weight of 4,400 pounds. On this run, Zdung Ho’s Charger pulled a 1.165 60-foot time, getting to the 8th mile marker in just 4.92 seconds (146.15 mph) while the quarter-mile pass took him just 7.622 seconds, hitting 183.29 miles per hour. You can watch that record-setting run in the video below.

Z ended his track time at the first Legion of Demons event of 2023 with what he called a “Hail Mary Pass”. He increased the first stage of nitrous oxide to a 175-shot with the 3-inch pulley and the 300-shot second stage, looking to improve on the previous 7.622. The Charger left the line hard as the track held the initial hit, but about 40-feet off of the starting line, the supercharged sedan began to spin the tires, so Z went the safe route and coasted through the top end. The weekend didn’t end exactly how he had hoped, but he still reset his owned world record for the quickest and fastest Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat in the quarter-mile while claiming the overall modern Dodge Charger quarter-mile records as well.
