Grudge Match Gladiators: Deshown Luckey

Twenty-six-year-old Deshown Luckey, Jr. (boostedluckey) is based out of Fort Worth, Texas, where he runs his performance shop – Luckey Racing. He also has a substantial YouTube following, with more than 445,000 subscribers and over 47 million views, with many of his videos focusing on his Dodge Challenger SRT® Hellcat. However, when Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge kicks off in Pontiac next month, Luckey will be driving a Jeep® Grand Cherokee in the Direct Connection Grudge Match.

To be more specific, Deshown Luckey, Jr. is building a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT from the WK2 era (2012-2021 for SRT models), which came from the factory with the 6.4-liter, 392-cubic-inch HEMI® engine, delivering 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque with help from an advanced all-wheel-drive system. Like the rest of the Grudge Match field, Luckey’s Jeep will soon be powered by the Hurricane twin turbo straight-six engine, which delivers around 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque in stock form, so just the engine swap will lead to a quicker SUV, but we suspect that he will turn up the power quite a bit. Remember, this year’s Grudge Match is an outlaw class, so competitors can do whatever they want, provided that they run the Hurricane engine and a modern 8-speed automatic transmission.

Right now, Deshown Luckey, Jr. doesn’t have any other companies to credit with his build for Roadkill Nights, as he is doing more of the swap in-house. His key advantage could be the preservation of the factory AWD system, as that would give him a pretty substantial advantage over the rear-drive vehicles in the Grudge Match, but if he is unable to keep the AWD system with the Hurricane, he is prepared to run the Jeep as a rear-wheel-drive vehicle.

We will have more details on Deshown Luckey, Jr.’s Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT once we get closer to 2025 Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge on August 9th.
