A Closer Look at Morgan Evans’ 1987 Dodge Ram D150
If you are a regular DodgeGarage reader, the odds are good that the truck shown here needs no introduction. It is the 1987 Dodge Ram D150 that has been driven by Morgan Evans to back-to-back wins in the Roadkill Nights Direct Connection Grudge Match. After Evans and her fiancée, Jason Kastner, built the truck for Roadkill Nights 2024 with a relatively stock Hurricane engine, the new outlaw rules allowed them to add some custom parts and gobs more power. When coupled with Evans’ abilities behind the wheel, this badass classic Dodge truck was one of the most impressive vehicles in the 2025 Roadkill Nights racing field.

“We are ecstatic about the back-to-back win. When they announced all rules were off, we were excited to use some of our skills to really put this Hurricane to the test,” said Morgan Evans. “We thought this year may be a bit easier since our truck was already equipped with the Hurricane, but it took us just as much time (if not more) to carefully develop these new parts, tune the platform, and make sure the truck was working as it should. Being a new platform with very little knowledge/experience out there, it was extremely rewarding to see how well the truck was working with everything we had just put together.”

When Evans and Kastner first built this 1987 Dodge Ram D150, it was powered by the twin turbocharged Hurricane inline-six engine mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and a Moser Engineering Mopar® 8 ¾ rear differential. The team also added Viking coilovers up front and Calvert Racing split mono-leaf springs with Caltracs out back, Wilwood brakes, JEGS SSR Spike wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson rubber, a safety cage, JEGS racing bucket seats, JEGS safety harnesses and an AEM CD7 digital dashboard.

With the introduction of the outlaw rules for 2025, the Torque N Tungsten crew added a custom exhaust manifold, allowing them to swap to a big single turbocharger from Precision Turbo. That new induction setup made more than 800 horsepower at the rear wheels, so Evans and Kastner made some other changes to support that power. They widened the rear wheel tubs to allow for a wider wheel/tire combo, showcasing their new Keizer wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson tires, and they improved on the safety cage to make the truck legal to run quicker speeds on the track. Finally, a higher stall torque converter from Circle D Specialties allows Evans to launch with more engine speed and more boost – helping her 1987 Dodge D150 dominate the Direct Connection Grudge Match field for the second year in a row.

“We also received continued support from a few other partnering companies like JEGS, Hot Shot’s Secret, Moser Engineering, Proform Parts and Hemmings,” said Evans. “Roadkill Nights was a blast as always with lots to do and an awesome venue. We hope to return for future years!”
