Hurricane-Powered Dodge Magnum Gets New Turbos + New Driver

One of the competitors in the 2025 Roadkill Nights Direct Connection Grudge Match was Garrett Dobbs, who campaigned a Dodge Magnum with the new twin turbocharged straight-six powerhouse. Dobbs kept his cards close to his chest around the time of the event, only providing basic details as to keep his opponents guessing, and he had a strong showing – losing in the semifinals to back-to-back Grudge Match winner Morgan Evans.

Since then, Garrett Dobbs has continued to race his Dodge Magnum and after seeing so much interest in his car from the Magnum community, we wanted to provide an update on the first Hurricane-powered Mopar® wagon.

The biggest news for the Hurricane-powered Dodge Magnum is that for 2026, the driving duties have been taken over by Garrett’s wife, Tori Dobbs. Those of you who are familiar with the Dobbs racing program know that his heavily modified Dodge Challenger SRT® Hellcat is Garrett’s main racecar, and in 2026, he is focusing his racing efforts on that HEMI® engine-powered beast. That frees up the Magnum for Tori to get more involved in the world of racing. She doesn’t have a whole lot of seat time, but she’s ready and excited for the challenge of piloting the world’s first Hurricane-powered Dodge Magnum.

“Racing this Magnum feels like a full-circle moment for me. I didn’t come into this world through a straight line or with a silver spoon – I came through it the hard way. Photography was my way in. It taught me patience, timing and how to read a moment before it happens. Standing trackside for years, watching people chase something bigger than themselves, I didn’t just document it – I felt it. Eventually, that pull got too strong to ignore,” said Tori Dobbs.

“The Magnum represents everything I believe in. It’s unconventional. It’s underestimated. It’s not what people expect to see lining up at the track – and neither am I. Racing it now, from behind the wheel instead of behind the lens, feels personal. Every pass carries my story in it – the setbacks, the resilience, the refusal to quit when things got hard. This car isn’t just about speed. It’s about proving that passion, persistence and belief can put you anywhere you’re willing to work your way into. I didn’t just want to photograph the journey anymore – I wanted to live it.”

With Garrett at the wheel, this Dodge Magnum ran a best time of 9.76 at 138 miles per hour, which was achieved with the stock turbochargers. However, when Tori takes to the track this season, it’s going to have larger turbochargers, more power and a very real chance of running in the 8-second range.

For those who are unfamiliar with the upgrades made to this Dodge Magnum for the Roadkill Nights Grudge Match, Dobbs stripped as much weight as possible from the interior, but he did so while preserving the factory dashboard and front door panels. The stock steering wheel was replaced by a quick release unit, a lightweight driver’s seat was installed with a harness bar and the cargo area housed a nitrous bottle, a fuel cell and an ice box. All of the trim was removed from the rear seating area and cargo area, as were the seats and carpeting.

As for the drivetrain, when Garrett Dobbs raced this Dodge Magnum at Roadkill Nights, it was more or less a stock Hurricane with the exhaust venting in front of the windshield and a nitrous setup of unknown size. His engine is tuned with a MoTec standalone by Brandon Weber at Accelerated Racing Solutions. He was also running the stock 8-speed transmission, but he had AAD suspension arms, Ridetech coilovers, a Gulfstream Driveshaft and Weld wheels wrapped in Mickey Thompson rubber to help get the best traction possible. Chris Baily of Baily’s Hyperformance also provided consulting services, sharing knowledge and access to industry-leading components.

When Tori Dobbs takes to the track this year, the stock turbochargers will be gone and in their place, a pair of HPT 62mm units mated with Granatelli wastegates and blow-off valves. These new, bigger turbochargers will help provide gobs more power thanks to tuning efforts by Accelerated Racing Solutions. With that extra power, Garrett Dobbs believes that Tori and this Dodge Magnum will be running in the 8-second range.
