Droptop Challenger: Dodge Dealers Offer New Streamlined Process for Third-Party Challenger Convertible Modifications

Dodge dealers are making it easy for 2022 Dodge Challenger customers to add a convertible top to the world’s quickest, fastest and most powerful muscle car.

Dodge dealerships will offer an expedited ordering process for third-party convertible modifications for the 2022 Dodge Challenger through Drop Top Customs, the oldest convertible coachbuilder in the U.S. The new, integrated transportation ordering process allows customers to place third-party orders and pickup finished vehicles through participating Dodge dealers.

Dodge dealerships in the U.S. will begin taking retail convertible transportation orders on August 16, 2022. Convertible third-party modifications through Drop Top Customs will also be available for the 2023 Dodge Challenger when orders open for the new model year.

The new third-party Challenger convertible fulfillment process was announced at M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan, during the first day of the three-day Dodge Speed Week event series, which featured announcements and reveals of current Dodge muscle products.

“While we hit the throttle towards our new performance path, Dodge is also having fun on this victory lap by celebrating decades of muscle car power,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge Brand Chief Executive Officer – Stellantis. “What better way to commemorate how far we’ve come than to make it easier for Dodge Challenger customers to create a throwback convertible look. We may not upfit them, but those who want a convertible Challenger can get one faster, expedited from the factory to Drop Top Customs. Owners can order third-party modifications through our Dodge dealerships, and then pick up their finished convertible at the dealer once the vehicle is complete.”

Dodge Challenger convertibles were offered as production vehicles for only two model years, 1970 and 1971. More than half a century later, Dodge dealers are helping customers order their dream convertibles through a simple, integrated transportation process. Customers will work closely with Drop Top Customs and their Dodge dealership to order the vehicle to fit their specifications. Dodge dealerships will schedule unmodified customer vehicle orders to ship directly from Stellantis’ Brampton (Ontario, Canada) Assembly Plant to Drop Top Customs for third-party modifications, providing a more efficient build time, and allowing owners to take the keys after completion.

Expedited shipment option to Drop Top Customs will be available for 2022 and 2023 Dodge Challenger R/T, R/T Scat Pack and all Challenger SRT® models.

Drop Top Customs has 46 years of modification experience, creating convertibles, including modern-era Dodge Challenger convertibles, that feature a fully hydraulic power top with structural reinforcements that reduce body flex while retaining interior space. Quality design, padded roof and heated glass rear window result in uncompromised comfort and provide sound and temperature insulation. More information on Drop Top Customs is available at www.droptopchallenger.com.

The Drop Top Customs third-party Challenger convertible-top option will be available at a retail price of $25,999 (final pricing negotiated and confirmed with the dealer). Additional ordering information, including warranty information, is available through Drop Top Customs.

Hello its me again another update on the 2014 challenger convertible conversion from DTC. I have fixed most of the issues but I am still unable to solve the shacking steering wheel and windshield. I put on cheap Monroe shocks to remove the Bilstein stiff shocks to losing up the ride. I also put the tallest continental tires that would fit on the rims and the car this did not fix the shaking. I don’t understand how any one would say DTC work is quality.
The cost to paint was $600.00. the replacement rims cost $1800.00 the reweld cost $500.00. The cost for the new second set of tires $1200.00 the steering control module cost $300.00 to fix. Rewire to install a relay cost $200.00 Front end alignment cost $120.00. the cost to replace the front spoiler was $200.00. Still need a new top that Jeff wont replace under warranty so if I can find out who made the top it will most likely cost 2K to replace. The car still rides like a two horse wagon.
Might just sell and buy a real convertible Camaro. Thanks for listening and good luck to anyone that deals with DTC. GG

Hi guys. I love the deamon challenger. I adore your work and craftmanship. I would love to own the convertable edition but…damn… I can’t affort anything in your brand selection. Thank you for awsome powerfull cars. But I wish you guys could build right hand drive cars for markets like Kenya. There are die hard fans for the dodge brand. Cheers.

Latest update as i continue to fix all the issues created by DTC conversion. I found behind the wheel well where they welded to the fire wall the weld was too hot and they burnt a hole in the fire wall metal. Of course DTC team left it so water could get in the car while driving down the road. The welds looks like bubble gum.
WOW it never ends. One day it will be back to show quality after I spend 5 or 10k. Everything I uncover I find half A-- work!

DTC from FL did my conversion and they are not a quality company at all (bunch of jack legs). Dodge will have a lot of unhappy customers with this company building the 2023 convertibles. They say you get a warranty but it’s at Jeff’s discretion. I have two snags in my top and he states it’s not noticeable. For $19k I notice. The fit and finish is terrible. I had mine done in September took them 5 months and I must get the windshield area repainted it has solvent pop and crow’s feet all across the top it also has runs at the bottom of the post. Jeff’s team only buffed it when I returned it for warranty. The paint issue returned the next day. The header panel on the headliner across the front doesn’t fit and the map lights shine through the gap between the top of the head liner and the front frame. Jeff’s fix for that was to stuff foam above the map lights to block out the light instead of fixing the un-even fit. The wiring is a nightmare no labels no molded connectors just crimped connectors, they straight wire the switches that does not require a key to raise and lower the top and rear quarter windows. Jeff sent Montway transportation to pick up my car and the jack leg guy strapped my car down with the D ring on the tire tie downs against my rim and the chain across the front spoiler. Jeff said it was Montway fault and Montway said I did not contact them in three days so it’s my fault I should have read their contract.
I never saw their contract as Jeff did the transportation so now, I am out $3k to fix that mess. I almost forgot the first time I picked up the car nothing on the steering wheel worked. I drove from his shop to Greenville SC without blinkers, cruse, horn, and wipers and it always rains in FL. This cost me $.3k to fix as they shorted out the steering control module. Of course, Jeff will not pay for that damage. Overall, what I know now the car would have a sunroof and I would have not done this. One other thing the car is so stiff now the entire windshield and steering wheel shakes. I have new Good-year tires on the car it was a smooth ride before he made the conversion. My last thought DONT LET THEM SCREW UP YOUR CAR!!!

Yes lord. The sexiest convertible of all time. The absolute goat! Convertible challengers are rare as can be. NEVER seen one in person. It is my absolute favorite look. All that power deserves to a drop top man. Epic reveal! Whoever doesn’t like it is truly chemically imbalanced.

I agree retroman. I’m weary on paying 26k for a drop top being contracted out… Make it factory installed. That’s my opinion

This a great offering. The fit and finish looks outstanding. I would like to see how the operation works with it going up and down. The fun factor of cruising with your gal, or in a parade, or the mountains, or the beach blvd, in the desert, late night to the club, off to play golf makes a thrilling offering by Tim and the Dodge team. Using a vendor is a great idea because it saves money, you get expert at what they do, and they have to live up to Dodge standards. The extra time to build out will be well worth it. Its better to offer than to not offer at all. However I think I want what’s under the “1Fast29” or on the car carrier covered up to be announced. Thanks Daytona Pete

I get it. Convertibles are pace cars, not race cars. But… I can’t help but feel that Dodge really missed a market opportunity here. The Challenger looks the best period, and is the only one out of the big 3 (Other 2 being Mustang & Camaro) that retains its beautiful hardtop body lines in 'vert form. I praise Dodge for partnering with DTC to make the ordering process easier, but please give us a factory convertible with the next generation of Muscle.:pray::pray:
