Mopar® Vehicles Shine At The Las Vegas Strip!

— CELEBRATING AMERICAN MUSCLE CARS LAS VEGAS STYLE
— THREE DAYS OF EXCITING DRAGS, AUTOCROSS ACTION
— VINTAGE AND MODERN MOPAR® VEHICLES RUNNING IN COMPETITION

The “Muscle Cars at The Strip” event has long been a favorite for participants and fans that desire to be surrounded by hot domestic muscle cars (heavy on the Mopar brand BTW!) and it makes for a great excuse to head to Las Vegas for some drag racing and autocross action! Promoters Phil and Jill Painter did a spectacular job at presenting this latest event, and with Mother Nature getting in the way a bit with rain the opening day of activities, it was challenging; however, all turned out well for Saturday and Sunday.

This Part I coverage focuses on the drag strip action, Part II features the Autocross Action, drag trucks, a girl with her 1970 HEMI® Super Bee (that ran both on the drag strip and on the Autocross track) and a “giveaway” promotion where a lucky spectator won a Mopar muscle car with a winning $5.00 ticket!

MOPAR VEHICLES GALORE!

No shortages of fast and colorful Mopar vehicles running down the drag strip in Las Vegas! This facility is ultra-modern and the track conditions were superb, with wheelstands and hard launches throughout the event.

IMPRESSIVE AWARDS

The extra effort this year put forth in creating these “Presented by ARP” awards was well appreciated by all the various winners!

A-BODY DRAG CARS SHOWED UP IN FORCE

Second-generation Barracudas, Darts, Valiants, Dusters, Demons, all well-represented, along with big blocks and small blocks putting on a great show for the spectators throughout the weekend!

VINTAGE B-BODY ACTION

The B-Body contingent also came to “The Strip” at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway facility to join in the 1/4-mile action, here’s a photo selection of 1963, ’64, ’65, ’66 all having a go at it on the race track, classic Mopar muscle!

OVERFLOW OF MODERN MOPAR MUSCLE

The drag racing activity at this event was well-stocked with modern era Challengers and Chargers, including some 7 SRT® Demon 170 models, some of which were run on a drag strip for the very first time! A wide variety of GEN III HEMI engine-powered cars were in attendance, and these modern muscle cars were out there blasting down the track in big numbers, impressive to watch and listen to!

Mike Mulder and his Plum Crazy SRT Demon 170 was the winner in the Demon 170 class, with a final round time of 9.29 at 146.45. Ron Silva did run a blistering 9.03-second run in qualifying in his SRT Demon 170.

Al Jimenez and his 9.10-second SRT Hellcat Charger won the Anderson Composites Unlimited Modern Muscle category.

Oh yeah, gettin’ them tires hot and sticky for the Las Vegas 1/4-mile drag strip, this one an SRT Hellcat Charger…

Same procedure with this Challenger, effortless tire burning and the track itself was rather well prepped for great launches!
