2023 Dodge Charger and Challenger Production is Underway

Since the modern era of the Dodge Challenger and Charger came to market back in the mid-2000s, every modern Mopar® muscle car has been built at the Brampton Assembly Plant in Canada. Back in mid-December, production of the final model year of this era of the Challenger and Charger began as the crews in Brampton stopped building 2022 model year vehicles and began building 2023 models. According to comments made by brand officials earlier this year, these cars will be built through the end of December 2023, leading to a production run of nearly 13 months.

The Last Call Begins

The 2023 model year will be the last for the current generation of the Dodge Challenger and Charger, but brand boss Tim Kuniskis is making sure that these legendary muscle cars do not go quietly into the night. There have already been six special “Last Call” models – three Challengers and three Chargers – with one more to be introduced in March. The Challenger gets the Shakedown, Swinger and Black Ghost packages, while Charger buyers can select the Super Bee, Swinger or King Daytona packages. The seventh and final Last Call car was teased at Dodge Speed Week in the form of a Challenger under a cover, suggesting that the final special edition package will apply to a Challenger, but we do not know for sure.

Also new for 2023, all supercharged models come standard with the Jailbreak feature, so everyone ordering a Challenger or Charger in SRT® Hellcat or SRT Hellcat Redeye form can select from a wide variety of interior and exterior color combinations. In the Redeye models, the Jailbreak package also lifts the output to 807 horsepower.

Of course, to make it easier to locate your ideal 2023 Challenger or Charger, Dodge has introduced the Horsepower Locator, allowing prospective buyers to see what dealerships across the country have an allocation for the type of muscle car that they hope to buy.

Highlights of the 2023 Challenger and Charger

The 2023 Dodge Challenger is available in nine basic trim levels – SXT, SXT AWD, GT, GT AWD, R/T, R/T Scat Pack, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Redeye and SRT Super Stock. R/T and R/T Scat Pack models can be transformed into T/A or Shaker models while the Scat Pack, SRT Hellcat and Redeye models can all be ordered in either standard width or Widebody form. The 1320 is back for the final model year of this generation, providing drag-strip-ready capabilities for the Scat Pack Challenger, while the SRT Super Stock follows a similar route, delivering many aspects of the 2018 SRT Demon in an 807-horsepower package.

In terms of performance, 2023 Dodge Challenger SXT and GT models feature the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 303 horsepower, R/T models offer either 372 or 375 horsepower (depending on the transmission) from the 5.7-liter HEMI® engine and Scat Pack models with the 392 HEMI engine pack 485 horsepower. The 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI engine is featured in three models, with the SRT Hellcat models offering 717 horsepower, while the SRT Hellcat Redeye and SRT Super Stock models come with 807 horsepower. Again, 797 horsepower is the standard number for the Redeye, but with the Jailbreak package coming standard on all supercharged 2023 models, all Redeyes will benefit from the 10-horsepower increase to 807.

As for the 2023 Dodge Charger, it is available in eight basic trim levels – SXT, SXT AWD, GT, GT AWD, R/T, Scat Pack, SRT Hellcat and SRT Hellcat Redeye. R/T and Scat Pack models can be upgraded with the Daytona Edition group while Scat Pack buyers can pick from standard width or Widebody. The Widebody form is standard on all SRT Hellcat and Redeye Chargers and has been since the design was introduced.

The 2023 Dodge Charger SXT and GT models are powered by the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with 292 horsepower in the SXT models, while the SXT AWD, GT and GT AWD models come with 300 horsepower. The 5.7-liter HEMI engine in the R/T offers 370 horsepower and the 392 HEMI engine in the Scat Pack delivers 485 horsepower. The supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI engine in the Charger SRT Hellcat packs 717 horsepower and the range-topping Redeye comes with 797 horsepower – although the standard Jailbreak package lifts the output to 807 horsepower.

When you combine these “standard production” models with the Last Call models listed above, 2023 will be the final year for this era of the Dodge Challenger and Charger, but it will also be the most diverse the most powerful – and those cars are being built right now.

I know people are having a frustrating time with their orders. I saw this one posted on Craigslist. Not mine, but it looks like a pretty cool build, especially with the Direct Connection Stage Kits installed.

There seems to be a lot of standard body cars at dealerships, but not very many Widebody configured cars. I am surprised they didn’t make a higher percentage of Widebody cars. Does anyone know when the 2023 Challenger production run is going to end? Month, Day, etc? Or even a rough estimate.

Why did my order for a 2022 dodge challenger widebody hellcat redeye jailbreak get canceled. I had ordered it in May 2022 and it supposedly got changed to a 2023 model year and just last week,The order was canceled by the manufacturer. What gives? I am getting really disappointed with Dodge overall.

Rantoniuk1958

Ordered my challenger widebody hellcat redeye jailbreak in May 2022, put down a $5000 deposit on it and the last I heard it hasn’t moved from the BA Status. I think Dodge has some explaining to do. Getting tired of waiting. I see the USA customers are getting updates frequently but not a peep for Canadians like myself. And the irony is they are built in CANADA.

Gordys22scat

Traded my 2016 rt in December 2022 , got a great deal on a new 2022 scatpack non wide B, knew dealers were going to increase the price for the exact same challenger in 2023, to over $10,000, and even more for hard to get special limited challengers, I couldn’t be any more happier driving my new bee around dealerships seeing all those price increases.

Aiden0317

I ordered my 2023 challenger jailbreak 11/18/2022. I got VON that day but I still have no VIN. I’m still stuck in BG status.

recon_bigboy

Ordered 2023 Challenger Hellcat WB, Order Excepted 11/1/22. Still not scheduled.

PogiBoy

If we build online for one of the 2023 Hellcats the receiving deallers waht to charge 20K above what the build cost is. That is just a greedy scam by them. That should be put to a stop.

DennisH

Please produce and make available more than 2k 300C’s with the 392 Engine. I would appreciate getting on the list for a Red one. Thank you.
