Radford Racing School by the Numbers

Have you ever wondered how much fuel, how many tires or how many sets of brake pads a world-class performance driving school like Radford Racing School goes through in a year? You are in luck! We recently spoke with a few members of the Radford staff who provided us with all sorts of interesting numbers that showcase the scope of their program.

Radford Racing School, formerly the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving, was founded in 1968 – so this year, the school turns 58 years old. The school has been in the Chandler, Arizona, location since 1990 and prior to that, the school operated out of three other locations (at different times). For the past 10 years, this has been the home of the Official Driving School of Dodge and the majority of the vehicles used in their driving programs are Dodge products.

Radford Racing School currently has 85 Dodge vehicles in the fleet:

27 Dodge Challenger SRT® Hellcats (2023 automatics)
8 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcats (2019 manuals)
13 Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Packs
5 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demons
7 2023 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon 170s
9 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeyes
2 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcats
3 Dodge Charger R/T Scat Packs
2 2025 Dodge Charger Daytona EVs
2 2026 Dodge Charger SIXPACK Scat Packs
1 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat
2 Dodge Durango SRT 392s
2 Ram 2500 Power Wagons
2 Ram ProMaster® Vans

As you can likely guess with the presence of Ram vans and Power Wagons that not all of these vehicles are used for track action, but many of them are used for daily on-track activities at Radford Racing School. Track cars are all inspected before and after every track session, with the most common things to be replaced being brake pads and tires. Radford uses around 600 sets of front brake pads and about 500 sets of rear pads per year, along with going through around 2,000 tires annually.

A full service is performed every 1,500 miles/every 6 months, including a change of all vital fluids. Between engine oil, transmission fluid and gear oil, Radford uses between 1,400 and 1,700 quarts of lubricant per year. The school also uses around 50,000 gallons of fuel per year, which does not include the SRT Demon 170-specific, high-octane racing fuel that they call “pickle juice”, which accounts for another 1,500 gallons annually.

The three main instructional areas at Radford Racing School are the skills training pad, the large road course track that was designed by Bob Bondurant back in 1990 and the drag strip. While there are eight different configurations of varying lengths, the Radford Racing School Track has a total length of 2.4 miles when using the available portion of the drag strip while the skills training pad covers 330,000 square feet/7.6 acres. Of course, the drag strip offers 8th mile and quarter-mile configurations. There are also three small tracks on the grounds that are used for various programs.

Radford Racing School employs 25 people, including 10 technicians, 6 full-time instructors, 14 part-time instructors (most of whom have been full-time instructors at Radford in the past) and 5 administrative employees.

Finally, Radford Racing School works with around 3,000 students annually, with a 3-to-1 student to instructor ratio and a mix of 80% track time to 20% classroom time. However, having been fortunate enough to attend Radford several times, the classroom time is informative and very useful for improving your on-track abilities. Since Bob Bondurant began the program back in the late-’60s, they’ve trained more than 500,000 students.
