Upcoming Richmond Auctions Will Feature Iconic Mopar_® Muscle Cars and Historical Automotive Artifacts

Those looking to score a rare Mopar_® muscle car or a piece of unique automobile history from the American car culture should check out the upcoming Tony Townley Collection presented by Richmond Auctions on Friday, October 24, and Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Bogart, Georgia. The fine folks a Richmond Auctions have amassed quite a selection of over 100 rare vehicles and 400 pieces of vintage automotive signs, memorabilia, gas station items and more. These great items were part of a decades-long collection belonging to Tony Townley in which he preserved and became the caretaker of them all. These distinctive unique vehicles, and irreplaceable items, showcase America’s century-long love affair with the automobile.

To understand why this auction will be different, it’s essential to know the auction’s background. This company was formed by two passionate individuals who wanted to change the business model of traditional car auctions, offering both sellers and buyers a much better experience. To learn more, co-owner Mike McCandless gave us some insights on this business and why this event will be special. “When I was building my museum, I dealt with many auction houses when I was collecting items. I became frustrated with my auction experience, especially the customer service side of things,” noted Mike. “After a bad experience with one particular auction house, I got with my future partner, Jordon Richmond, to create a market opportunity by being focused on quality and customer service.”

One example is an unrestored low-mileage 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona powered by a 440 Magnum. This is a very original unrestored survivor 1969 Dodge Daytona showing just 3,700 miles. Previously owned by the legendary Malcom family, this car was shown all over the country, including the Carlisle Nationals. This numbers-matching 440 backed by a numbers-matching 727 and Dana 60 is truly a unique buying opportunity. it comes with factory build sheet, window sticker and keys, along with a detailed report from Mopar muscle historian and expert David Wise.

Another great car coming to auction is a 1970 Charger R/T powered by a 440 Six Pack. With a four-speed trans, Hurst pistol grip shifter, high-impact HEMI^® Orange paint and white Bumble Bee stripes, this Charger checks the right boxes for brute horsepower and great looks. The inside also looks great with more desirable options, including the console, bucket seats with cloth inserts, power steering, power disc brakes, and many other features that make the driver and car feel as one.

Another great example representing the ‘Dodge Scat Pack’ is this 1970 Super Bee, but unlike its stablemate, the Charger R/T, this Super Bee packs a venous sting with a 426 HEMI engine under its scooped hood. This car has gone through an intense and beautiful restoration as per the original fender tag. Its freshly rebuilt 426 HEMI engine has only “break-in” miles and is ready to rumble. This Bee is painted in Burnt Orange (FK5), has the black Super Bee ‘C’ Stripes and the rear quarter panels, and has that unmistakable ‘Ramcharger’ hood with twin functional scoops ducted to an under hood air box. The optional trunk-mounted ‘Go Wing’ spoiler also adds to the Bee’s menacing looks.

Looking for a Superbird? Richmond Auctions will have a super rare ‘survivor’ that will go to a new home. This ‘Wing Wonder’ of Plymouth’s Rapid Transit System comes painted in high-impact Limelight Green paint with a black vinyl top, its white ‘Plymouth’ quarter panel decals (making it more unique). But it’s what’s under the hood that will get your heart pumping with its 390 horsepower 440-cubic-inch Six Barrel engine. Showing a mere 7,965 miles, this Superbird is very original and with a Hurst pistol grip shifter rowing the gears, this Mopar vehicle is a lot of fun to drive and will provide many smiles on the lucky bidder that goes on home with the beauty.

But, if you’re looking for the ultimate king of all Mopar muscle cars, Richmond Auctions will also be offering a 1971 HEMI ’Cuda. Since it was the final year of Street HEMI production, this is a great example of ‘Plymouth’s Rapid Transit System.’ Painted in high-impact ‘Curious Yellow’ with black rear quarter panel ‘Bill Board’ stripe, this 1971 HEMI ‘Cuda will burn your retinas. Between those black high-back bucket seats resides Chrysler’s exclusive Hurst pistol grip shifter attached to the bulletproof 18-spline A833 four-speed transmission. All that HEMI engine goodness ends up at the Dana 60 rear axles spinning 4.10:1 cogs and rolling on 15X17 Rallye wheels and Goodyear Polyglas tires. If that Shaker bubble popping through the hood doesn’t get you excited, nothing else will. Sold new in British Columbia, Canada, this car was built to Canadian specs and is one of the very few 1971 HEMI ’Cudas sold new in that country. 

Speaking of HEMI ’Cudas, Richmond Auctions will be offering another 1971 example that also has great pedigree. Fully restored and painted in GB5 ‘True Blue Metallic’, it’s adorned with matching blue vinyl high-back bucket seats, dash, door panels, console and steering column. This color combination looks stunning on this rare Mopar and is a unique sight to see, from a time when there were unlimited exterior and interior color combinations. Under that sinister black painted Shaker bubble resides King Kong himself, the mighty 426 HEMI engine sporting a pair of Carter AFB carburetors. This HEMI ’Cuda was ordered with 727 TorqueFlite and has Chrysler’s ‘Slap Stick’ automatic shifter. The Super Track Pak option was ordered, and that included the Dana 60 axle with 4.10:1 gear and Sure Grip, a 26-inch Max Cooling radiator, power brakes and other items.

Along with cars, Tony Townley amassed many original Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and other auto-themed neon signs that will light up any ‘Man Cave’ or ‘Garage Mahal’. Talk about rare, many of these signs were chucked in the dumpster when the dealerships closed down or when some of the brands became orphans.
